Engaging with our suppliers to foster innovation, ensure the quality of our devices and create a resilient and responsible supply chain.
The electronics industry faces numerous challenges, including economic fluctuations, supply disruptions, and component shortages. To tackle these, our dedicated reduced-risk product (RRP) device sourcing team has developed a resilient supply chain approach with sustainability in mind.
The electronic devices in the RRP category are designed and developed by our R&D teams, and are produced by third-party contract manufacturing companies, in collaboration with our RRP sourcing team.
Given the technological innovation necessary for the development and manufacturing of these products, our teams work in close collaboration with our contract manufacturers to build a resilient supply chain while integrating sustainability into sourcing decisions.
Supplier collaboration and engagement are essential to foster innovation, ensure the quality of our devices and create a resilient and responsible supply chain that delivers value to our customers, stakeholders, and wider society.
Our close engagement with suppliers enables us to effectively address the risks associated with the manufacturing of our RRP devices and to gain visibility into the supply chain of electronic components, minerals, metals, and other raw materials.
Where we identify the need to improve the practices of our suppliers, we conduct targeted capability and coaching sessions to improve their understanding and performance.
Adopting a risk-based approach, we conduct due diligence along the value chain of our electronic products. We take into account the human, labor and environmental risks inherent to electronics supply chains, the countries where our devices are manufactured, the risks associated with raw materials, and the regulatory landscape in which we operate.
We require that all our contract manufacturers undergo an independent third-party on-site assessment to examine their labor, health and safety, environmental and ethical practices. The purpose of these assessments is to help us identify risks, set up corrective action plans and drive continuous improvement together with our suppliers.
We seek to deepen our understanding of the impacts in our supply chain, right down to raw materials, including minerals and metals, plastic resin, paper and pulp.
We pay special attention to the risks associated with minerals and metals in the electronic supply chains, particularly conflict and battery minerals. To identify and assess those risks, we conduct due diligence aligned to the approach of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals, which we recognize as the most authoritative framework for responsible sourcing of minerals.
We have spelled out our commitment to responsible sourcing of minerals in our Conflict Minerals Statement.
To better manage the potential risks inherent to our supply chain and to contribute to a positive change in the global electronics industry, we have joined the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), the world’s largest industry coalition dedicated to responsible business conduct in global supply chains. We leverage RBA programs, tools, and practices to help improve the performance and compliance of our suppliers with our standards while fostering increased transparency throughout our supply chain.
Building a resilient supply chain is essential for today’s electronic sourcing. It requires close collaboration with our suppliers at every step. Sustainability is central to our strategy and crucial to our responsible sourcing practices.
